Jae L. Woodsmall, 70, of Sumner, died Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Ravenwood Specialty Care in Waterloo.
Memorial services will be held 5:00 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2017, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Chapel in Sumner with Rev. Mike Christie officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour preceding the memorial service at the funeral home on Thursday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in her name to a local animal shelter of the donor’s choice. Per the family request, Mrs. Woodsmall’s body was gifted to Des Moines University to aid in the education of medical students.
Jae Leigh, daughter of Wayland and Margaret (Rosemeyer) Rasmussen was born January 4, 1947, in San Francisco, California. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1965 and continued her education at Mason City Junior College, where she received an Associates Degree. Jae worked for many years at the Sneed Eye Clinic and Baxter Labs, both in Mountain Home, Arkansas. On July 4, 1990, she was united in marriage with Edwin “Woody” Woodsmall in Gassville, Arkansas. In 2015, Jae moved to Sumner to be closer to her family. She enjoyed raising horses, knitting, crocheting and painting.
Jae is survived by her son, James (Sheri) Vierkant of Sumner; one granddaughter, Hayley Vierkant of Sumner; two brothers, Jim (Joanne) Rasmussen of Hampton and Joel (Shirley) Rasmussen of Clear Lake; one sister, June Erwin of Dale City, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Woody.
